Crop pollution continues to be a cause for global concern with 25% of crop losses worldwide being caused by mycotoxin contamination, leading to annual losses of 1 billion tons of food and food products. Over 300 various mycotoxins have been identified throughout the world and several have been found to be the most prevalent and are subject to monitoring and regulations in 120 countries.

The most commonly found mycotoxins are; aflatoxins (B1/G1/G2), ochratoxin A, fumonisin, deoxynivalenol, T-2 and zearalenone. Various conditions can lead to the growth of mycotoxins, poor storage conditions, high temperatures and high levels of humidity can all create prime conditions to facilitate fungal growth and mycotoxin contamination in crops.

When it comes to testing for mycotoxins in recent years there has been an increased need for a screening method that can detect multiple residues from one sample in order to save time and money on sample preparation and analysis with multiple single mycotoxin screening methods.

In direct response to this, Randox Food Diagnostics developed the Myco 10 array. Using patented Biochip Array Technology, the Myco 10 array has the ability to simultaneously detect 10 of the world’s most prevalent mycotoxins including; aflatoxin B1, aflatoxin G1/G2, ochratoxin A, fumonisins, paxiline, ergot alkaloids, diacetoxyscipenol, deoxynivalenol, T-2 toxin and zearlenone at excellent limits of detection compliant with EU regulations.

The Myco 10 array requires a 50µl sample of feed and using a simple sample extraction Biochip Array Technology delivers results in 2 hours 30 minutes. Customisable arrays are also available with a minimum of two mycotoxins required to create a specific array to suit your screening needs.
